It must be a sickness. I see a dirt road that looks like it will take me to where I want to go, and that's it. Then, when a) the road comes to a T and I have no idea where either way goes, or b) the chain decides to lodge itself between the hub and the cassette, or c) put your preferred one here, I've added a whole lot of time and distance to the day. But the beauty, the isolation, and, yes, the struggle; they make it worth the extra aches.
